Sometimes, social media such as Facebook can make us feel really bad about ourselves for many reasons. The most important being that we feel bad when we see our friends having fun without you. That is one of the main reasons as to why Facebook users tend to be less happy than people that don’t use Facebook. Studies show that Facebook users are 39% more likely to be unhappy than non-Facebook users.
People use social media every day. One of the sites that is most used worldwide is Facebook. When Facebook users go through their feed and what has been happening, they tend to feel bad about themselves, even though they are looking at something they enjoy; but that’s the thing, they enjoy the things they see and the fact that they are not doing said things makes them feel bad. Basically, they envy what they see and they want it. That is what happens with Facebook users and what they see every day.
Envy is not the only reason Facebook makes us feel bad about ourselves. When you post things on Facebook, many people consider them as a “humblebrag”, which basically means a way of showing off while being humble about it at the same time. People do not like others who humblebrag. Even though that is not your intention, others don’t know that and they start to dislike you. It’s basically a big misunderstanding, but it is what it is.
So, in conclusion, I believe Facebook can make us unhappy and not for the reasons we would expect. When people post happy things, we feel unhappy. When we post happy things, others feel unhappy and that is basically how this unhappiness with Facebook happens.
